Kent 11 Plus Exam.

Kent is one of the very few areas in the UK with a complete Grammar School system. The Kent 11 Plus exam aims to select the top 20% of students and to offer them a Grammar School place.

The Kent 11 Plus test is one of the most rigorous in the country because it involves four disciplines: Maths, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and English.

While all students are asked to sit the English test it is not a comprehension exercise as in other areas, it is a writing exercise. The English test is only used to separate candidates in the event of a tie for the final place available in any given school.

How can Parents help their children’s preparation for the Kent 11 Plus Exam?

 Parents can help in many ways.

• Employ a Private Tutor.
• Use a Private Tuition cramming group.
• Use a structured 11 Plus home tution course.
• Source 11 Plus materials and practice papers themselves.

The Kent 11 Plus test covers a large amount of ground and with the exception of Non-verbal reasoning just doing some familiarisation work with 11 Plus practice papers is unlikely to be enough for any but the very brightest of students. 

 Working over the final three or four months in a Private Tutor Group will only deliver a limited degree of uplift. Research has shown Children need to work for a much longer period to deliver a real uplift in performance.

How can our structured home tuition courses help with the Kent 11 Plus Exam?

 We have evolved from a Private Tuition Environment and deliver lessons for the Kent 11 Plus for pupils to study at home with help from their parents. Our materials are very well structured and designed to deliver the improvement in core Maths  and English skills that are needed to give children the best chance of succeeding in the Kent 11 Plus Exam.

We cover Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and build in Non-Verbal Reasoning familiarisation at a suitable time.

We have a very good record of success in the Kent 11 Plus exam going back 15 years.

 What work will we provide to our pupils to help them with the Kent 11 Plus exam?

 We ask children to work for roughly half an hour each weekday.

Busy schedules can be accommodated by working more at weekends. We normally issue work during the term time but we do ask children aiming for the Kent 11 Plus to do some work during the summer holidays as the test is normally very soon after the holidays end.

Each week we send a self-explanatory work schedule that builds up score skills in as involving and interesting way as possible. We ask Parents to be involved but absolutely no teaching skills or experience or knowledge is required, just support and enthusiasm.

Our structured home tuition 11 plus courses cost from £27 per lesson and are about 70% cheaper than using a Private Tutor.

We can work with chidren starting from year three. Many children join us in year four, most will have joined in year five.

We can still help those children with very little time via our 11 Plus revision course.

Useful information about the Kent 11 Plus Exam

• Kent 11 Plus exam dates- Normally in the first two weeks of the September of year six. Children from outside the county sit the test the week after.
• Exam make up- Maths, Verbal reasoning, Non-verbal reasoning. All multiple choice, Written by NFER (GL). English test is a writing exercise and only used as a tie-breaker.
• Kent 11 Plus Exam Results- Normally during the second or third week of October with news of space allocations coming in March.
• Applications for the exam- Families will need to register whether they are within the county or not and regardless of whether they are at a state primary or not.
