We get frequent feedback from parents and children. The extracts below are from just a few of the many emails and letters we have received between March and October 2007. The letter X has been used to preserve privacy.
I am very glad that I did Lessons in the Post and I felt I was prepared as well as I could have been.
Mummy is very pleased with me because I was awarded two roll of honour merits this week. This is the first time I have ever achieved this and the teacher said, ‘I am very impressed with your work.’
We’re pleasantly surprised by how well structured the course is, and X loves all the little touches like the card to stick on his bedroom door each week, and the certificate from his assessment test. The lessons are really well organised. Several times already I’ve made a note to go back over something X hasn’t understood and it has reappeared in just the right way the next lesson. X says to tell you that the lessons are really good, and fun.
We would like to express our thanks for helping X achieve better grades since she started your course. She has been very proud of herself when she knows the answers to questions in class, especially after she has covered the subject previously in your lessons.
I would just like to thank you both for a great course which has supplemented my home tutoring efforts greatly and we both wish you every success in bringing the programme to more children in the future.
I am really enjoying Lessons in the Post programme and I am not really looking forward to stopping. It’s been great fun.
She feels a lot more confident at school and I’ve been lucky enough to be secretly tracking her progress (I am now the deputy head there). Her results are improving and it’s lovely to see her confidence in the class – she has really grown this term.
I have to say your programme is a thoroughly well thought out teaching system.
We’re just very enthusiastic about the lessons so far and it’s nice to be able to do something constructive and fun together.
We loved the Fruit Fractions and polished off a bowl of clementines.
We’ve started the year with some good news: X has been promoted to the top maths group…..and about time too. I have to admit that I’d more or less given up with the maths at school. …..I am sure she’ll tackle anything they throw at her with great enthusiasm and look forward to being able to report on progress through the ranks of the elite!
She is obviously doing well and heading in the right direction.
I am happy to report even more good news. She’s only been in the top group for a few weeks and is up there with the best of them (at least the top ten.) This most definitely would not have happened without our work at home as they were not covering the syllabus in sufficient depth in the lower sets. Without our efforts she simply would not have the knowledge.
I wanted to let you know that I received a head teacher’s award for my story writing because I wrote a good description and used fab adjectives. Only four out of thirty got the award which was really good.
X came home today bursting with pride because she had been asked to help some of the other children with long multiplication.
At the last minute I decided to take the King Edwards Independent exams. A few weeks later I was called back to have an interview with the Chief Master. Today the letter came bearing good news and I have been offered one of fifteen assisted places.
Thanks for the certificate and notes for X’s last assessment test. X is very proud and we are delighted with how much he has progressed. Your work has given him some really solid foundations and greatly improved his confidence. He is now shining!
X had an academic scholarship call back from all three independents we applied for.
Yes, he did it! He has been offered a place at KEGS. We read the letter again and again and I am still shaking. Tears of joy! Thank you for your continuous support, guidance and encouragement and for the wonderfully and carefully planned 11+ programme. Wow! What a day.
Just to let you know that X has got a place at Chelmsford High School for Girls. Thank for your help, it made for a very well prepared girl to take the test.
Thank you for the terrific material. X was allocated her first choice of Grammar School.
Some more good news! X has today received an offer from his first choice school. This is fantastic news and we are over the moon!
I am very glad to tell you that X has excelled in his 11+ exam. He is ranked 10th out of all the students. Thanks to you and Simon for your help in getting this success.
It gives me great pleasure to let you know that X has been offered a place at our choice of Grammar school. We would to thank you from the bottom of our heart as this wonderful result would not have been achieved without the help and support from you and Simon.
X has passed his 11+ and has been offered a place at our first choice. We are doubly pleased as we are out of their catchment area and as such there were only 50 places up for grabs, so he had to get a better than plain pass if he was to be successful. Additionally he did it all in only 10 months on your course. If you need any testimonials from us regarding Lessons in the Post you need only ask.
He has passed all the exams and he has chosen to join Manchester Grammar.
This is my second message to you today but I had to let you know that Dad went to a parent-teacher meeting this afternoon. X’s teacher said that he is one of the best in the class at Maths! This is astounding!
Congratulations to you both on another successful year of results; to achieve it through distance learning and with a history of consistency is highly impressive.
I sat an 11+ practice paper at school last Tuesday. I was nervous at the beginning as I opened the paper, but was really pleased when I got my mark back before Easter as I got 95%. Thank you so much – all your Lessons in the Post work is helping so much.
We cannot wait until I start lesson 7 because they are fun. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. I also wanted to say what a difference I have seen in X, her confidence is definitely growing. and I am so pleased that I have found your website.
I would like to tell you that I have moved up to the next literacy group so I am now in the highest.
The very good news is that X now really enjoys Maths. It’s such a change in attitude. Looking forward to whatever is next.
I have to say that you are a brilliant teacher and really know about children.
