11 Plus Verbal Reasoning Preparation and Revision

Some local authority areas like Bucks Grammar Schools or Gloucestershire Grammar Schools and some Independent Schools have an eleven plus exam which focuses on Verbal Reasoning only.

 

Most Verbal Reasoning tests are multiple choice and use some or all of the recognised 21 different verbal reasoning question types (there are some additional variants as well which often come up).

 

What does the Lessons in the Post 11 Plus Verbal Reasoning course contain?

 

Our 11 Plus Verbal Reasoning course is twenty weeks long and will provide a mix of work focussing on:

• Core English skills
• Methods of working through the individual question types and
• Application of skills to the Exam through test papers.

It is we believe the most complete course of it’s type available. It has proven to be very successful over the years with the vast majority of children attaining scores over 85% with many getting well into the 90% area. These are the types of scores children will need to be successful where there is a Verbal Reasoning element to an 11 plus Exam.

Normally we would assess children to check their level before starting them on a course but as the 11 Plus Verbal Reasoning course is so short there is little point in doing the assessment.

 

Please do keep in mind that the course does require both parental and child commitment and while it should be fun it still requires quite a bit of hard work. We will also be encouraging children to read intensively during the course as this will add greatly to performance.

What does the 11 Plus Verbal Reasoning  course cost? Are there any tie-ins?

 

We provide the course in two sections of ten lessons each. The lessons should provide enough work to cover about fifteen minutes to half an hour a day Monday to Friday. The course can be completed in a shorter time frame than twenty weeks and some Parents also do it early and then keep things current until the exam with regular test 11 Plus Verbal Reasoning papers.

 

We do not tie you into the whole course up front. If for any reason you do not want to continue with the second set of lessons then please just ask. This is a rare event but we do not want to tie parents in beyond the set of lessons they are currently working on.

 

The course costs £15 per week and runs for 20 weeks. Invoices are sent at the beginning of the course and at the half way point when the second set of lessons are sent out.

 

What other ways can we help you especially with younger children?

Parents of younger children often come to us earlier than in the final months before their 11 Plus Verbal Reasoning Test. In these cases it is right to consider moving beyond just teaching for the test.

 

Starting preparation work earlier will mean:

 

• English performance can be improved so that we see a step change in a child’s Verbal Reasoning ability.
• We can focus on broader English skills ensuring children are fully equipped to perform really well once they have actually got to their chosen school.
• We would also aim to make sure that children have very firm foundations in Maths. Many will aim to get into the top sets for Maths when they get to their Grammar or Independent School.

 

While the 11 Plus Verbal Reasoning course will make a huge difference for those parents helping their children prepare for an 11 Plus Exam, where we have more time  we can concentrate more broadly on Maths and English core skills. This will ensure children not only have the best chance of passing their test but also performing well when they get there.
